It's always great when a writing task really captures the children's imagination and they get it. Our Makerspace this week was based on the book Kuwi's Huhu hunt so our writing focus was looking at the language in the book, in particular the alliteration. We started by thinking about food that was special to New Zealand, then brainstormed some alliteration sentences for each. The children worked in partners to write a conversation between two characters asking what was for lunch. We used this great App - Textingstory to publish their writing which fitted the scenario perfectly.

These are the Apps we used..Here's how we did it...First you need to create at least 3 different textures using Drawing Pad, there are lots of cool features you can experiment with to make each layer look different. You can use Kiwi bird colours or get creative and use different colours. Next, use Pizap to build your kiwi bird. When you open Pizap you need to use a background that is saved to your camera roll before you begin as you will need to add that first. I saved some different backgrounds on our class blog 21.blogs.takp.school.nz/makerspace/kuwis-first-egg/kiwi-digital-art-project/ but you could use your own. Then using the "cut out" feature cut out different circle shapes and layer them on top of each other. Finally there is a Paint feature you can use to draw the beak, eyes and feet. Once that is finished you can add a border and look to see if there are any effects that would really make your picture look amazing! Here is an example of my work-flowSome fantastic examples from our session |
Trudi FausettLearning in my space is now all about what the children can create with the new knowledge they have learnt. It’s about using all the tools available to showcase their understanding to a much wider audience. I find it so inspiring that I can connect children’s learning with their own unique creativity in so many more ways. Archives
